Rob Kainz performs Eugene’s Trick Bag, by Steve Vai (Neoclassical)

Ok, we’re going to be honest here. Our CEO came to us and told us to write a favorable review about his video of him going Macchio on everyone on YouTube by playing part of the Crossroads duel that Steve Vai actually performed.

We told him we’d give him a fair review and he told us he wants 6 mushroom clouds or we’re fired.

Here’s how the conversation went:

Rob: I want 6 mushroom clouds.

Jon: We’ve never given anybody 6 mushroom clouds before, we don’t even know if it’s technically possible to do that.

Rob: What does someone have to do to get 6 mushroom clouds?

Corey: You would have to perform something so fast that the rotation of the earth is reversed, turning back time.

Jon: Yeah, like in the Superman movie.

Corey: Seriously Rob, we’ll give you a fair review. You’ll get the mushroom clouds you deserve.

Rob: I want 6 mushroom clouds, or you’re fired.

So, we gave him 6 mushroom clouds. Please encourage him not to give up the guitar by giving his video a good rating or comment at YouTube: YouTube link to Rob’s Steve Vai’s Eugene’s AKA Ralph Macchio’s performance from Crossroads

Chason Flanders (Acoustic/Americana/Folk)

This week, I received an invitation to check out the group Chason Flanders at the Little River Grill in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  For those of you who live in the Lawrenceville to Athens area and haven’t been out to see this band play yet, you are really missing out on a great acoustic performance.  With Chason Flanders on acoustic guitar and Myles Mattison polishing off the groove with pure percussive intuition, I knew from the moment they played their version of T-Bone Walker’s 1947 hit, “Call It Stormy Monday” that these guys had genuine class.  Chason, born in Texas and influenced by artists like Jeff Buckley and Stevey Ray Vaugn, has a strong family background in vocal performance.  Myles Mattison, now Chason’s regular drummer, has worked with such legendary acts as Patti Labelle and Kenny Loggins among other talented musicians.

The Talking Toaster

I used to love to catch the episodes of Red Dwarf that featured the talking toaster. There is just something about the idea of kitchen appliances that can hold an intelligent conversation that makes the thought of cooking far more appealing. Imagine how useful it would be to just start listing off items in the fridge or the pantry and your stove starts recommending recipes that use the particular items in question. No more wasting time trying to figure out what you should eat for dinner. You simply ask your refridgerator to remind you what left overs will likely be going bad soon. And if for whatever reason you are really stumped for ideas, you just pull up a chair and have a conversation with all your helpful appliances at the same time.
